I run Windows XP on a Dell Dimension Pentium 4 desktop.
From time to time, Windows, for no reason I can see, will
decide that newly opened applications windows will be
in "restore down" view rather than "maximized" view, which
I prefer. Is there some way I can influence Windows on
the default size of a newly-opened applications window?

Minimized is different from window size. You can try specifying they open
maximized. Right click the shortcut to the application, select Properties,
on the shortcut tab, in the run box, select maximized.

Many thanks for the quick reply. It worked for my
applications except for Internet Explorer (ver. 6.29). I
have been unable to find a window size option in the IE
properties. It still opens in the "restore down" view
rather than the "maximized" view. Don't believe I
mentioned "minimized".

That's right, you didn't exactly say "minimized.":-)

Okay, with IE, I think you need to drag the window borders to the size you
desire, hover the mouse over each edge until the cursor becomes a double
arrow, then drag the edge. Once the Window is the size you desire, click
close from the File menu instead of clicking the red "X" in the upper right
corner, then reopen and see if it opens as you desire.

More thanks. That did it. This problem solved. Now I
can turn to all the others I have pending....
