Continuous Crashing BCode: 9c errors

Hello,

xp has become the bane of my existence.

1.5 months ago xp would crash every now and then and restart. okay.
then it became more often. then it was a couple of times a day. then
it got to the point were I could just logon and it would crash.

sent it back to the shop. they ran a health test - no problems.
reinstalled xp and it worked! for about 2 weeks.

now the problem is back. so i reinstalled xp, ran updates etc... seems
'okay' but it has crashed twice in one day. I hoping someone can tell
me how to fix this. sending my pc back to the shop is VERY expensive
and I'd rather not. I'm job hunting and need my computer now more than
ever!

BCP4 : 1040080F OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 2_0 Product : 768_1

If anyone out there can help, but needs more info PLEASE just ask!

Regardless of what the shop says, this is probably a hardware error,
not a Windows one. I'd suspect bad or mismatched RAM, overheating
problems, or a flaky power supply.

Yes, they work. Also, opening the case and blowing out any accumulated
dust bunnies with a can of compressed air can help an overheating
problem.

Beyond that, wait for advice from others. I have no pretensions at
being a hardware expert.
 
Dear bbb,

Try running the Microsoft memory diagnostic to check out your RAM.
Best done for a couple of hours to allow things to heat up.

http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp Runs from a floppy – very
easy to use.

Go to Windows update and check for hardware updates too.

Finally, do a chkdsk /R as this needs to be done every time your PC
"bugchecks". Google for chkdsk /r instructions.

The awkward item to test for most home users is the power supply unit as
spare units are not usually available. Ask your computer repairer
whether they tested this item. What type of repair service did you use?
Big store repairers are often not the right place to go. A small
business with proper facilities relies on repeat business to survive.
