Continouus dropping of network connection

Blair Johnson

I have a laptop with Windows 2000. Our office uses a
network with Windows 2000 NT. My laptop drops its network
connection every time I send and receive e-mail. I use
Outlook for e-mail. Several other people in our office
have the same problem.

I have enabled off-line files on my lap top. We use a 3rd
party outside support company and they seem to think it
has something to do with the enabling/disabling of off
line files. But they can't pinpoint the problem.

Any guidance as to what might be causing this?

Offline files will have no effect on Outlook connectivity. PST will are
ignored on offline file sync. I would say that your switch/hub/router & NICs
is not configured with the correct link speed and duplex. This is a hit or
miss situation depending on the brand of connectivity you are using. You
have to work around different configs until you find one that works well.
For example: If you are using a 10/100 Switch configure the ports to
100/full and the laptop to 100/full. The problem here is that some switches
and NICs do not play well. They sometimes need to be one sided auto detect.
This is why it is a hit or miss situation. Hope this helps. Let us know if
this works out.
