Hi,
I have a customer that has a many year supply of continous pin feed labels
3" x 4". The pin feed printer they were using died and can't find a
replacement. Thay have a laser printer and I ran the labels thru ok. My
problem is that I define a lcustom label as continous and use 3 x 5 but the
report label wants to treat it as a 8 1/2 sheet of paper and not continous
so the vertical spacing is not correct. I have Access 2003. How do I get
true continous forms?
Thanks.

For starters, you'll have to stay within the constraints of the printer's
driver. There is a good chance that the printer won't do what you are
wanting, regardless of what you tell Access to do. If you can separate the
labels into sheet lengths that will be tollerated by the printer with top
and bottom margins within your printer's printable area (even if you have to
cheat a little and not fully fill the label with printing) then you should
be able to work your way around the settings to get it to work. Open the
report in design mode and to go File|Page Setup and adjust the settings to
where you can get the printer to work. If it won't accept a page a narrow as
you want, but will pull it through ok anyway, just don't put any text beyond
where the paper will be.

Another possible and potentially dangerous problem depends on the type of
labels you are using. If they are the sticky type on a peal-off backing then
I recommend that you DON'T use them in your laser printer at all. Between
the turns in the paper path and the heat generated by the laser printer, you
risk the labels coming loose and gumming up the printer.

Both eBay and your local thrift shops have tons of dot matrix printers.
New ones are getting expensive and they eat ribbons but they are still
widely available.
There are also height end laser and ink jets that will handle them.

I am in total agreement here. The glue and adhesives used in those labels is
NOT made for laser printers. The heat alone will generally cause all kinds
of problems for the labels. The tendency of labels to come off, and also the
glue will contaminate laser drum makes this a very risky idea.

Either use laser labels, or find another dot matrix. I would not do this!
