The system recognizes that the cd drive is there. It
comes up in Windows Manager, but when i try to view the
contents of a CD it acts like there is not CD in the
drive (and yes...there is actually a CD in there hehehe)
I have tried this with multiple drive and i get the same
results each time. The drive is the secondary master.
When I tried to make the cd a slave of the primary, it
wouldn't recognize either drive. Is this just the IDE
going out on the mobo, or is Windows just being screwy?

Thanks in advance!

Eric

It could be a failed drive or maybe there is just dirt or
lint blocking the laser. Try a shot of clean air inside the
drive.

Drives are cheap now, I've seen CD-RW for $20.

I have the same symptoms with a CD-ROM burner.
Everything worked fine until I installed/uninstalled
ROXIO Easy CD 6. Now nothing can read the drive. Device
Manager says everything is FINE. I
uninstalled/reinstaled the drive. No change. I performed
the Registry edits recommended by Microsoft KB Article
314060. No change.

Thanks

Same here...exactly the same situation in every detail.

I'm working again. Uninstalling ROXIO Easy CD does not
delete everything. I blew away \program files\common
files\roxio shared and now I can read/write to the
burner. Hope this works for others. Maybe this is why
Easy CD is often called a virus!
