How can I make Windows Explorer in XP show the sub-folders
under :

temporary internet files\content.IE5\

These are the folders that have apparently random-
generated names. Before lots of helpful people tell me, I
do know how to empty them, delete them, what they appear
to be there for.

My problem is that in 95/ME/XP they showed up in Explorer.
In XP they don't.

thanks in advance

Roger

Log on in a different user. They didn't work as you suggest in 9x.

Thanks Dave. That sort of worked - when I switched back
again I couldn't se them any more. I'll play about a bit
more.

I could see them in 98/ME - honestly. I'm looking at
another MR screen right now and there they are.

cheers

My whole content.IE5 folder is not visible under my log in, or the default.
Doing a virus scan on it shows bring scanned. Really weird. Have tied
every thing I can think of with no luck. Am going to call MS tomorrow to
see what they say. Can't even put a copy in the Temporary Internet Folder.

Choose IE for your browser then you also choose a MS proprietary cache
file system.

Dont like it? Then use one of the 50 alternatives.

AFAIK you do not have a problem. That is, on both of my computer
running Windows XP Professional SP1 (and all pertinent updates),
and both configured to show hidden files in the Folder Options
dialog box, for the user logged on only the Temporary Internet
Files folder is visible using Windows Explorer.

Furthermore, according to the following archived newsgroup reply
on the subject, posted by a Internet Explorer MVP, this is
normal behavior in WinXP:

On WinXP you can only see Content.IE5 for your user if you logon
as a different user with administrative privileges. And you will
have to have set Windows Explorer to show hidden files and
folders. <SNIP>

BTW, trying viewing your own Temporary Internet File
folder while logged on in using your own account by doing this.
Click Start, click Run, type the following command and click OK:

Shell:Cache\Content.IE5

Another way is to start the Disk Cleanup Tool (cleanmgr.exe).
Then when it present you with the Disk Cleanup options dialog box
click to select "Temporary Internet Files". Then click the "View
Files" button.

And for future reference, I suggest that you post your IE6
questions in the newsgroup:

That Shell worked fine. I now have 4 Content.IE5 folders showing :-). I
suspect from the times I tried to put it back in my TempInt File. anyway I
was able to clean them out. If I could delete the dat files I could get rid
of the excess.
Thanks Carrie.
PS: I am running the Home Update edition
