Content Advisior-- Password/Reinstall issue

G

Guest

Ok I feel like an idiot, but somehow the Content Advisor got password locked
and I don't have the slightest idea what the password is.
What now? I tried reinstalling IE6 (Could they make it any harder?) but for
some reason that didn't work.
Despite changing the registry per instruction, the installation program
still recognized IE6 and refused to install.
Any ideas? Is there an easy way I'm missing, to reclaim the password?

*sheepish* Thanks for the help...!

Hi :)

Here's the basic procedure, but refer to the link above if you need more
detail: Go to Start|Run and then enter "regedit" (without the quotes). and
then navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Policies\Ratings

Select the "Key" entry in the right-hand pane and
Delete it. Now go to Registry>Exit to close Regedit.

Now you'll be able to disable Content Advisor by opening IE6 and going to
Tools>Internet Options>Content. Click on "Disable". Then click on "OK" when
you're asked for a password - don't enter anything. OK out and CA is
disabled.

Alternatively, see here: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_abc.htm under
Content Advisor under "C" for info and specialized .vbs scripts to turn it
on and off and to modify specific settings.

If you wish to restore Content Advisor to its original condition (because of
your kids) you can obtain a Microsoft program (CA-Reset.exe - 89.5K) to do
this here: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/CA-Reset.exe
(listed on line 283) NOTE: Using CA-Reset will completely delete your
Approved List - everything starts like brand new, so consider this before
you use it. You may also wish to take a look at:
http://www.icra.org/icraplus/ and
http://www.safesurf.com/

More information here:
http://www.pchell.com/support/contentadvisor.shtml and do what it says
and/or see here to disable it completely or toggle it:
http://osiris.978.org/~brianr/nopics-ie/

Hope this helps.
