I'm hopelessley confused. I just got my new pc (Windows
XP Home) going and so I copied over the .pst file from my
old computer, then loaded Office XP with Outlook 2002. I
put the .pst file into the right folder, and all my stuff
shows up on the Outlook folder list, including the entire
Contacts list...so far so good.

But when I click New to send a new email, then click To
to quickly select an address from Contacts, they're not
there and I get an error msg saying that the address list
cannot be displayed / The contacts folder associated with
this address list could not be opened; it may have been
moved ro deleted, or you do not have permissions.

I've looked around in Help until I'm blue in the face but
can't figure out what to do. Please, if anyone's been
thru this or otherwise knows, I'd sure be grateful for
some insight.

Thanks,
Roger

Now you see why you never overwrite a PST file. Next time if you want
Outlook to use another PST file, configure it to do so.
Now you need to repair your connection to the Outlook Address Book. Go to
Tools | E-mail accounts, select "View or change existing directories or
address books", and click OK. If you don't see the OAB in the Directories
and Address Books list, click the Back button, then select "Add a new
directory or address book", then "Additional Address Books", and add the
OAB. Then keep clicking Back until you get back to the first dialog box,
and go back to the Directories and Address Books list as you did earlier.
Once the OAB appears in the list, select it and then click Change to make
sure the Contacts folder(s) you want to display are listed. If any of them
aren't listed, you'll need to enable those Contacts folders as Outlook
Address Books by right clicking the folder, selecting Properties, clicking
the Outlook Address Book tab, and checking the "Show this folder as an
E-mail address book" box. Make sure you restart Outlook after making these
changes.

Your help worked perfectly, thank you.

Not if it's a PST file that someone else is using. Maybe you can supply more specifics on exactly what you're trying to do?
