contacts vs personal address book

After years of using Eudora, I decided to utilize first Outlook Express and
now Outlook as my email reader for my business. I am still learning about
its features.

I have spent the last couple of weeks setting up the rules wizard, so that
the junk mail (probably 90%) goes where it belongs.

Now I want to actually do something positive. I have set up a number of
good addresses inb the Contact List, that appears on th side. I would like
to get those same addresses into the PAB without having to do them one at a
time. I also want to set up rules so that good email from the certain
groups of people go to specific mailboxes. I could do that with Eudora.
For example, 50 or so of my contacts are members of a group, which is
desiganted in their profiles. I would want to make a rule that any mail
from any of those addresses goes to that groups mailbox. (right now I drag
and drop from inbox into that mailbox)

Thanks for any help

Nate Rosenthal

A Contacts List that appears on the side? Outlook does not do that. Outlook
Express does. The two programs are in no way related. You need to determine
which program you intend to use and post your question only about that
program. OE is not covered in this group.

Outlook would provide more options for the things you want to do such as
rules that move messages based on the sender.

Outlook has not used a Personal Address Book for years. The PAB was replaced
by the Outlook Address Book. Your questions are far to broad to permit a
facile answer in a newsgroup post. I would suggest you spend some time
reading about the Outlook Address Book and Rules in Outlook's Help and on
www.slipstick.com and post back if you have more specific questions.

I am using Outlook 2002

I have a group of icons on the side that have a heading of Outlook
Shortcuts--Outlook Today, Calendar, Contacts, Tasks, Notes, Deleted Items.
When I click on the Contacts Icons, my address box at the top says
outlook:Contacts. Listed are my contacts that I imported. Click on any and
I get a more in depth profile.

Along the top under tools, there is a drop-down for address book, but no
addresses are listed.

Perhaps I need to do some reading on some of this and I will. I was just
trying to shortcut this as much as possible to get up and running.

You know the old saying "when all else fails, read the manual" I figured
I'd explore this option first.

Then you haven't configured your Address Book correctly yet. The Address
Book will also display your Contacts' electronic addresses.

Go to Tools | E-mail accounts, select "View or change existing directories
or address books", and click OK. If you don't see the OAB in the Directories
and Address Books list, click the Back button, then select "Add a new
directory or address book", then "Additional Address Books", and add the
OAB. Then keep clicking Back until you get back to the first dialog box,
and go back to the Directories and Address Books list as you did earlier.
Once the OAB appears in the list, select it and then click Change to make
sure the Contacts folder(s) you want to display are listed. If any of them
aren't listed, you'll need to enable those Contacts folders as Outlook
Address Books by right clicking the folder, selecting Properties, clicking
the Outlook Address Book tab, and checking the "Show this folder as an
E-mail address book" box. Make sure you restart Outlook after making these
changes.
