Contacts vs Business Contacts

Could someone please explain the difference and why everything defaults to
Contacts?

Contacts are the non-BCM contacts. In my case they only contain personal
contacts that are not business related. Business Contacts are just that. They
are business contacts that are part of BCM and they can be linked to Accounts.
