contacts there, but address book empty

I've tried to get the contacts, which are in the contact folder to appear in
my address book using the suggestions here, but it does not work. I've got
Outlook XP on my home pc and copied that pst file to my new notebook and
then told Outlook XP (on my notebook) where that pst file was located.

My notebook has Outlook XP, and Win XP pro. The contacts are there, but
the address book is empty. I've Right clicked on the contacts folder, and
when I go to properties, and Outlook address book, ALL options are greyed
out. I can't select Show this folder as an email address book.

I've gone to Tools/Email accounts/Add a new directory or address
book/Additional address books/Outlook address book. When I get here, I get
the following message:
" The account you have added is not fully configures. It might not work
properly until re-configured correctly"

When I click on the address book, there is NOTHING there. no names, email
address, or options.

I'm ready to give up. Can anyone please help me??

Thanks for the reply. However, it doesn't work. I get to the step 6 where
it calls for me to click on Outlook address book, and I get the following
message:
" The account you have added is not fully configures. It might not work
properly until re-configured correctly". When I click OK, it goes back to
where I click on "Next" to add an outlook address book, and get the message
above. I have to X out of it, and then X out again.

Any other suggestions??

Yes. State how you configured your profile.
What transports and what information store are you using?
It sounds like you haven't even configured it yet, or it is corrupted.

I remember now that I copied over some files from one of the Outlook folders
on my home pc, and put them into the same folder on my notebook. Thought it
would make things easier than configuring everything in Outlook again.
Shouldn't have done that now I guess. It did make outlook on my notebook
look, and act just like my home pc, EXCEPT for the address book.

I've tried to uninstall Office XP on my notebook, then remove any folder
that has Office, or Outlook in it. I re-install, and it appears as if it's
remembering my settings, and looks as if I've never done any
uninstall/re-install.

Guess my next question is how do I completely remove Office XP, and any
remnants of it from my notebook so I can re-install and start from fresh?
Do I have to reformat my hard drive? Is there someplace that I can find
these entries and delete them? If I need to go into the registry, that's
not a problem.

Again, any input is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Uninstalling and reinstalling Outlook won't help a bit.
Overwriting a PST file corrupts your profile every time. Yours can't find
its data file.
Just create a new profile from scratch and set it to use your Outlook data
file. Make sure you know the correct name and location of your Outlook data
file.

Russ,

THANK YOU! It's fixed, and working fine again. I REALLY appreciate your
help. That link was the exact answer I needed. It's now bookmarked so I'll
have it for furture reference.
