Contacts & Outlook address book

When I select address book I get a dialog box with info from my contacts.
1. In the drop-down list "Show names from the:" CONTACTS is listed.
2. IF I select OUTLOOK ADDRESS BOOK the page is empty and a "no entries is
this address book" is the only entry.
3. Checking the Properties results in this message: "Properties dialog box
could not be displayed. An attempt was made to open an unsupported property"
4. How does one correctly move info from contacts list to the OUTLOOK
ADDRESS BOOK and then eliminate the CONTACTS (in the drop down list) so only
the OUTLOOK ADDRESS BOOK shows when you open ADDRESS BOOK from the menu bar?
 
You misunderstand.
The Outlook Address Book should be empty. It holds any Contacts Folders that
you have enabled as email address books. The Contacts Folders contain your
data and should appear beneath the Outlook Address Book. Select those to see
your entries.
 
The Outlook Address Book is not an object in the sence that it stores data,
it is an Identifier of mailed enabled folders that contain contact items. If
you right click on a contact enabled folder such as the default contacts
folder and go to properties. Click on the Outlook Address Book tab and there
should be a selection box to designate a contact enabled foder to appear as
an available address book. So it essense Outlook Address Book is just an
identifier of contact enabled folders.
 
ADDENDUM: What I was trying to do was eliminate "contacts" in the drop-down
list of "show names from the:" leaving only "Outlook Address Book" BECAUSE in
Word while using the address book the default seems to be "Outlook Address
Book" which comes up first forceing you to click to "contacts" to choose an
address.
If the "Outlook Address Book" no present is just an identifier how do you
eliminate it, so only one is listed when using address book in word????. For
that matter if it is unusable why list it at all????

You cannot and must not eliminate the Outlook Address Book from the
dropdown.
I sense that some part of my reply was not clear. Tell me what you do not
understand.
 
Outlook supports multiple Contacts folders; if there are multiple folders,
each appears in a list under the "Outlook Address Book" heading because each
is an Outlook Address Book. There is no way to eliminate Outlook's
multiple Contact folder support, hence there is no way to eliminate the
"Outlook Address Book" heading.

wizard" in Word. 2. Recipient Info Tab,,3. Click Address book icon,,4. Dialog
box appears with drop-down list. (Backup of Default
Outlook-2,3,4,5,6)(Default Outlook-highlighted)(Outlook),, 4. Accept
--highlighted>"Default Outlook" by clicking OK,,5. "Select Name" Dialog
appears--"Show names from the:" drop-down list --"Outlook Address book" is
first choice & "No entries in this address book" is the message.,, 6.
Click-drop-down arrow reveals "Contacts" --Select - "contacts" --then and
only then do names appear.
Question: 1. Is "Outlook Address Book" a useable address book? If not why
does it appear in the "show names from the:" list as the first and evidently
the DEFAULT ADDRESS BOOK? 2. This is annoying--How does one place names in

AAAAH-so,,, Its not an error that Outlook Address Book is the first option,
its just poor programming. Another item showing up whose only function seems
to be to confuse. Microsoft is good at that TWO EXPLORERS is another example.

I am also able to prescribe as much antihypertensive medication as you may

Actually I do appreciate the explaination. Your first one seemed a little
heavy on the "program geek-speak" and went right over my head. Poking fun
from time to time is how I keep my tension down. Incidently I thought you
were the one requiring the reduction in antihypertension medication after the
quote: "what part of my reply do you not understand."
You need to talk to those of us that do not do this for a living a l i t t l
e s l o w e r.

This is not directly addressing my problem. My Outlook Program got corrupted,
and it is not possible to uninstall Outlook Completely and then do a fresh
install, so I created a new profile with a PST File and imported everything
into it; Contacts, Rules, E-Mail folders, etc.

I have a complete Contacts folder, but when try to create a message (Outlook
uses MS Word to compose messages) and click on the "To:'' it formely broght
up an address book that contained all of my Contact information in a
different format. I could then search for the email addresses I wanted to
include in the "To:" line, the "CC:" line, or the "BCC:" line. and send the
email. Now, when I click on "To:" I get the screen with "Select Names" in the
blue banner, but NO NAMES. Over on the right is a line that reads, "Show
names from the:"
and underneath it is a bland field with an arrow on the right that reveals
one of two options: "Personal Address Book" or "Outlook Address Book." If I
select "Personal Address Book" I see the empty address book. If I select
"Outlook Address Book" I get the same screen with this line in the area where
the names belong: "No entries in this address book."

Before I had my corruption problem, the word "Contacts" would appear and
when selected, would display all the names from my contacts.

My other problem is that when I begin keying a name on the address line of a
new message it does not find the remainder of the address and complete it.

I've been fighting these problems for two weeks and this one has me stumped.

First, you should never import a PST file. You probably corrupted your new
profile in so doing.
You open a PST file and use it in a new profile.
You must also enable the Contacts Folder as a email address book in its
properties before it will appear in your address book view.
