There is no such bug.
Nor is this the correct solution to this problem. In fact, users should
_not_ use this since importing and exporting PST files loses data and is not
recommended.
It is a simple matter to reset the Outlook Address Book connection when it
becomes outdated or corrupted.
It is not unusual for the Outlook Address Book to "lose track" of the
connection to its Contacts Folder when you move or import your PST or update
your Outlook version or operating system. Use the following steps to reset
the connection. Note that in some instances you may actually have to remove
the Outlook Address Book completely from your Profile, close Outlook, and
then re-add it before you can get it to work.
For Outlook 2000, Corp/Workgroup:
Go to Tools > Services. Make sure the Outlook Address Book service is
listed. If not, add it. Next, R click on the Contact folder or folders you
want the OAB to display, choose "Properties", go to the Outlook Address Book
tab and check the "Show this folder as an E-mail address book" box. You may
also need to go to Tools > Options > Addressing Tab and choose to show your
Contacts folder.
For Outlook 2002/2003:
Make sure the Contact folder is enabled as an email address book. Right
click the Contacts folder, choose Properties then Outlook Address Book. Is
the box to enable as email address book checked?
If this is grayed out...Go to Tools | Email Accounts, choose View or change
existing directories or address book. Is the Outlook Address Book present?
If it isn't listed, add it and close and restart Outlook. If it is listed,
then remove it and close then restart Outlook and repeat these steps to add
it.

Thanks Russ for your curt reply, but I guess that it is you who didn't
really
understand. It is a FACT that Microsoft products do weird things (although
I
am a Microsoft fan.)
The Contacts folder does not show up. When you click on the Contacts
Quicklink at the bottom of the page, or when you do an import, the
Contacts
folder is clearly there.
I do have a solution to the problem, though. I figured it out, and it is a
bug in Microsoft software.
SOLUTION:
When opening a previously used Outlook .pst file, regardless of whether it
is a 2003 or previous Outlook version file, Outlook 2003 thinks that it is
a
previous version file. When this is the case, it says something about not
supporting unicode. Forget about this: the solution is is as follows:
Go to Email Accounts on the Tools menu and add a new .pst file. Set
Outlook
up to deliver all mail to this new .pst. Once this is done, restart
Outlook.
You'll notice that the main "Personal Folders" is the new empty one we
just
created. Then close the one with all your mail (but remember where it is
stored). Go to File, Import, Import .pst, and then navigate to your
previously used .pst. Import all the contents from Personal Folders. Tada!
This actually works for all the computers at our office with Office XP and
Office 2003. The theory is that you've got to create a new .pst file
regardless of its version since Office Outlook 2003 thinks that ALL .pst
files are a previous version. Then you've got to import your mail into
this
new .pst file.
Let me know if there are other people out there who find this useful.

If you still do not understand, then you will have to post details on how
you configured the Outlook Address Book, including your Outlook version
and
how you configured your profile.

message I have the same problem. When you go to the contacts folder you see the
contacts. you can add contacts to.
What you can't do is click on the "TO" button and see the list.
Similarly
you cannot see the list when you search for a contact in the Outlook
dialogue
box. When trying to add a contact to a group or add someone to a
meeting
notice, you cannot select them from the contacts. you have to type
them
in
as if they were never a contact.
Bottom line is the folder exists but there is no functionality with the
other modules.
Does that provide you enough info to make a guess on how to "re-link"
the
contact list to the rest of the application?
:
This makes no sense.
How can you view your Contacts without viewing Contacts Folders?
That is where Contacts reside.
Please provide a more accurate description of your problem and include
your
version.

I have had the same problem as Morris... I went to the article you
recommended but I have an additional problem. I cannot view contacts
folders.
My contacts are there but I just cannot view the folder. I tried to
add
a
new
one but it wouldn't view that one either. When I click on the
contacts
button
(quick link), both folders appear and all my contacts, however I
cannot
view
the folder in my folder view... AND I cannot access them when
sending
emails
(from the To field)...
What can I possibly do?
