I have Outlook '07 with Vistas OS (new laptop); previously used Outlook '03.
My old Outlook data is loaded in the new Outlook. I can not get my contact
folders to show up in the address book. I have attempted the procedure to do
this however, under the Outlook Address Book tab in Properties, I am not able
to click the "Show this folder as an email Address Book" box - it is grayed
out.

Then you have corrupted the Mail Profile somehow. Did you import your pst
file? That's usually the cause.
Go to Control Panel-Mail and create a new Mail Profile. Add the current pst
file to it in the same place.
See if that helps.

Did not work. I also created an new datafile and imported contacts into the
new data file from a CVS file. Still unable to check the box.

You corrupted your Outlook profile by migrating your data incorrectly.
Create a new profile from scratch and read the many posts here that tell you
how to migrate data correctly to the new profile. Make sure you don't do the
same thing you did last time.
Take a look at these pages for info on Outlook data backup or transfer:
http://www.slipstick.com/config/backup.htm
http://www.howto-outlook.com/Howto/backupandrestore.htm
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/assistance/HA010771141033.aspx

Note that some of the information on these pages is outdated and no longer
applies to Outlook 2003 or 2007. Specifically:
1. Ignore any advice to copy your PST file to Outlook's default location to
connect it to your profile. Doing so only corrupts your profile. Copy it
anywhere BUT the default location and open it within your Outlook profile.
2. Ignore any advice that tells you to use export or import to transfer
Outlook data. That has never been sound advice, but the process has become
too deeply flawed now to be of use.
