Contacts Lost after automatic Windows Updates

Yesterday I installed an automatic update for Windows XP consisting of about
14 different security updates. Now, when I opened Outlook something had been
changed with the email accounts so that I had to reset the proper account
that I had been using. It appears that all my messages are intact but many of
the contacts are missing. Is there any way to recover them?

Do you back up your data?
Is Outlook still using the same data file it was before?
What error messages did you receive when you open-end Outlook?

Outlook data was not backed up.
I'm not sure how to check the data file being used. It now appears that some
older messages (over 1 week) are missing along with some contacts but
messages from a few days ago are still shown.
There were no error messages - when I first opened Outlook it didn't use the
account that I had been previously using and then when I reset the account
info the program shut down and said there was a major conflict with Quork
add-in (which I never heard of) and said that the add-in had been disabled
and if I wanted to enable it I'd have to go through the Windows steps, which
I did not do.

Was this Quork part of the updates? Does it do something to Outlook?

Thanks for your help - I appreciate it!

I've never heard of any similar problems. Sometimes an Outlook repair
operation will create a new profile. Are you saying that Outlook opened
normally, yet your mail account was simply not there? That would be
inexplicable.
Why don't you search for every PST file on your hard drive and open each to
see if one contains your missing data. Also, see what the pattern is to what
data is missing.
