I am using MS Office XP For Small Business. I can see my
Contact list with all entries. To send an email I click
on a folder other than Calendar or Contacts. I then click
New. This starts Word untitled message. If I click To or
Cc a Select Names window appears. No information appears.
It must be looking at the wrong file. How do I get the
information? I will add the famous last words. "It was
working yesterday". Help would be appreciated.

Is there anything at all in the Select Names dropdown?
If not, make sure you have the Outlook Address Book Service installed and
configured in the profile.
There is more to this story, I'm certain. The Outlook Address Book just
can't disappear on its own.

There are NO entries in the Select Names dropdown window.
Outlook Address Book was working yesterday. How can I
recreate it and move the entries from my Contacts File. I
know how to export entries to a csv file so that is the
easy part. I was actually trying to move all the files to
one common directory. I.E. Shared Documents. This is a
stand alone computer. If I am signed on to different
accounts I still want to have access to all my emails
sent and received. What is the name of Outlook Address
Book? Where is it NORMALLY located? Help much
appreciated.

I knew there was more to this story. You still provided no information that
would permit troubleshooting. What files did you try to move--where, how and
why?
There is no Outlook Address Book file. the OAB jests shows your Outlook
Contacts Folder.

I tried moving some files called Outlook.pst and
Archive.pst. They were located in directory C:\Documents
and Settings\Wayne\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook. Change Wayne to Administrator to
get the location of the other Outlook.pst and Archive.pst
files. I tried moving these pst files to a directory
called Shared Documents\Shared Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook. The part after Shared Documents
is my own convention. In fact these files are located
under C:\Documents and Setting\All Users\Shared
Documents\.... The reason - I still wanted to
send/receive all my email when I was using either
account. I mentioned before this is my home standalone
computer. I hope this is enough information to permit
troubleshooting. I appreciate the help.

It is not unusual for the Outlook Address Book to "lose track" of the
connection to its Contacts Folder when you move or import your PST or update
your Outlook version or OS. Use the following steps to reset the connection.
Note that in some instances you may actually have to remove the Outlook
Address Book completely from your Profile, close Outlook, and then re-add it
before you can get it to work.

Go to Tools | E-mail accounts, select "View or change existing directories
or address books", and click OK. If you don't see the OAB in the Directories
and Address Books list, click the Back button, then select "Add a new
directory or address book", then "Additional Address Books", and add the
OAB. Then keep clicking Back until you get back to the first dialog box,
and go back to the Directories and Address Books list as you did earlier.
Once the OAB appears in the list, select it and then click Change to make
sure the Contacts folder(s) you want to display are listed. If any of them
aren't listed, you'll need to enable those Contacts folders as Outlook
Address Books by right clicking the folder, selecting Properties, clicking
the Outlook Address Book tab, and checking the "Show this folder as an
E-mail address book" box. Make sure you restart Outlook after making these
changes.
