I tried reimporting the files per the instructions below. I still get
semicolons when I try to copy from the address book to an email
message.
If
I go in and retype the email address for that contact, then it works
fine.
Cutting and pasting that email address doesn't work. Also, the names
in
that
folder are displayed by first name, not last name. I hope I don't have
to
retype every e-mail address manually because there are over 1,000 of
them!

New folders do not show up automatically in the Outlook Address Book
unless
you enable them as email address book in their properties.
Your symptoms indicate you did not import correctly.

Russ, I am not sure how you enable a subfolder, but when I create a
new
folder it automatically shows up in the email address book. If I
move
some
of the phantom contacts to a new folder, I can see them in the
address
book.
But, if I try to copy them into an email, only a semicolon shows up;
no
text
and the up /down scroll bar appears, suggesting something long is
getting
copied but it is invisible.
The emails are resolved email addresses. they are media emails from
an
Access database.
Mike
:
So we should assume that you enabled this subfolder as an email
address
book, right?
If so, then I would guess that your imported Contacts do not have
resolved
email addresses. Look and see.
Outlook's import routine does not work as expected. Never has and
likely
never will.

I imported contact information from a text file into a subfolder
under
the
Contact folder. Everything mapped correctly and looks normal.
However,
Outlook doesn't appear to recognize the contacts. If I type one
of
the
names
into an email, it doesn't appear if I select "check names" and I
can't
find
either the folder or the names in the Address book. It doesn't
help
to
move
one of these "phantom" contacts to the main Contacts folder. I
have
no
trouble with manually creating contacts in subfolders and having
them
appear.
