Contacts in Outlook 2000 - Help!

I've spent way too many hours trying to get my Contacts from Outlook 2000 (on
Windows XP OS) where they can be viewed in alphabetical order on my PDA.
Apparently my PDA will only show the "name" field and not the "Company"
field. So, I removed all company fields and retyped them into the name
field. I thought I had figured it out because my view appeared to be okay on
the PC, however when I sync'd with my PDA the names get put in "last, first"
and my company names are backwards. I tried changing the default to first,
last and then typing it exactly as I wanted it to appear and that didn't work
either... Any suggestions?
 
Unfortunately, the world of Microsoft Outlook has nothing to do with this.
Your PDA synchronization software is what controls all this and you must ask
its manufacturers this question.
 
For anyone else out there who is trying to do this, there are settings in the
Outlook Mail Format Options. You can choose your defaults for how the
contacts are typed in, and then you can choose the defaults for how they are
listed. Unfortunately there isn't one that will let you type it in exactly
the way you want it listed, how frustrating.... You have to type some of
them in backwards so that they will come out in the right order in the
listing or you will never be able to locate them again! I also found out
that you can click on the picture of the address book, then there is a
drop-down menu with a sort option that lets you choose how the contacts are
displayed....

Not so.
If you want to control the sort order of the Outlook Address Book (different
question entirely), that is not the place.
Depending on your version and mail support mode of Outlook, you can sort the
Outlook Address Book this way (check for your mode on the second line of the
Help menu > About):

98/2000 in Corporate/Workgroup mode:
Tools menu > Services > Highlight the Outlook Address Book service > Click
Properties > Set sort order

98/2000 Internet Mail Only:
Tools menu > Address Book > View menu > Sort by

Outlook 2002/2003:
Go to Tools > E-mail accounts > View or change existing directories or
address books > Outlook Address Book > Change. > Set your sort order there
