Backed up contacts exported from Outlook (Office 2000 SP-3) to hard disk and then copied to CD-RW on W2000 Pro machine. Then loaded them on to new XP Pro base unit but Outlook (also Office 2000 SP-3) won't import them . Keep getting error messages saying "Properties for this information must be defined prior to use" and .pst files are not personal folder files. Any bright ideas?

Did you remove the read only attribute the file acquired on the CD?

No, the read only attribute is still ticked under properties on the CD

Please remove it then. You must move the file to a hard drive and allow
Outlook to have read/write access.

Tried that, Russ, but error message says "Error occured applying attributes. Access denied." Rather puzzlingly, the same .pst file on the new hard disk has the read only attribute unchecked but the same thing occurs..

How exactly did you create this file? Did you take it off the CD? Have you
tried repairing it with the Inbox Repair Tool?
