My hard drive recently crashed. I have copied an old Outlook pst file from
a CD, but when I try to insert one of the contacts using the "To..." button
in a mail message, I receive the following pop up message

"The address list could not be displayed. The Contacts folder associated
with the address list could not be opened; it may have been moved or
deleted, or you do not have permissions. For information on how to remove
this folder from the Outlook Address Book, see Microsoft Outlook Help."

Does anyone have any idea how to make my contacts work again? I can see
them all still there in the contacts folder. One problem I can think of is
that I think on my old hard drive that my username had my middle initial and
it does not on my new drive.

What do you mean you "copied an old Outlook pst file?
Copying wouldn't do anything.
Did you configure Outlook to use it?
You failed to post your Outlook version.

I copied it into the appropriate folder on my new computer, and then I
imported it. Everything works fine but the contacts. I am using Outlook
XP.

Never overwrite a PST file. Overwriting a PST file will corrupt your
Profile.
Importing a PST will lose data and may also corrupt your profile.
Read the instructions for migrating Outlook data. They also apply to Outlook
2002:

The solution was to delete the address book from my email account. For some
reason the next time I started Outlook a new address book was created with
the information from my old Contacts folder.

Removing and re-adding the Outlook Address Book will repair the connection
between that Service and your Contacts Folders. If you're lucky, that will
be the only thing that got corrupted.
