Russ,
I've been trying to understand why we are having such a devil of a time
communicating. So, I played around with outlook some more. Here is the
situation (and the solution).
As I noted before, I have only been clicking on the "Mail", "Calendar",
"Contacts" tabs when moving back and forth between activities. When
"Mail"
is clicked, only the mail folders show up... no contact folders. When
"Contacts" is clicked, only those contact folders assigned to My Contacts
show up. So, there was no way to assign a folder to My Contacts because
it
only contains folders already assigned.
This morning, after reading your reply, I looked carefully at outlook. At
the very bottom of the navigation pane, under the aforementioned tab
names,
are three icons, which when moused over, turn out to be "Notes",
"Folders",
and "Shortcuts".
Well, I clicked the "Folders" icon, and lo!, all the folders, both mail
and
contacts, appeared in the navigation pane together. Now, the problem
becomes
trivial... for the contact folder in question is listed when all folders
are
displayed.
As I project manager, I have to look at lessons learned. My previous
verrsions of outlook did not have the tabs that provided navigation views
of
mail, contacts, calendar, and tasks. It always and only had the whole
list
of folders.
My new outlook set up default with all of the tab options, and quite
frankly, the folders icon at the very bottom of the navigation pane is
much
smaller and definitely not emphasized. Why I didn't click it earlier is a
question for the gods.
So, my apologies for running you down a rabbit warren. On the other hand,
this conversation has solved the problem and educated me, and I thank you.

Just describe in detail how you are accessing this folder so I can tell
where it is.
What you describe is not possible. There is no such thing as a Contacts
Folder that appears in your Address Book that does not exist in your
Outlook
profile. The Address Book contains no data. It is merely a display of the
Contacts Folders that are in your profile.
You may need to use Folder view to display the entire hierarchy of
folders
in your profile so you can find this folder.

I get real confused with address books, contacts, and folders. But it
is
exactly the opposite way around that you described. I have a contacts
folder
that I can access when sending an email and it has a bunch of address
in
it.
However, it does not show up in the list of folders available to me in
the
navigation pane under "Contacts".
:
So what you really meant to say then was that you have a folder that
appears
in your Address Book that does not exist as a Contacts Folder, right?
Sounds to me as if you just have an outdated reference to a Contact
Folder
that no longer exists. Happens all the time. Just remove that
reference.

Russ,
I've got the navigation pane open in outlook. At the bottom of the
pane
are
the tabs, Mail, Calendar, Contacts, Tasks. When I click on the
Contacts,
I
get list of all the folders in "My Contacts" except for the one
named
"Singapore Contacts". It's just not there. However, as I noted
below,
it
does show up in the modifiy directory/address book as I mentioned
earlier.
I've taken the obvious work around which is to move every address
(which I
obtained by creating a new email and selecting the address book) to
a
new
folder which does show in the My Contacts list.
FWIW - Singapore Contacts was the one and only contact folder I
created.
Then, I imported all the rest of the folders later on.
:
Something doesn't fit here.
Any folder that appears in that dialog will also appear in your
Address
Book's "Show Names From..." dropdown. Did you look there? Are you
certain
you have enabled this folder as an email address book in its
properties?

Outlook Version 2003 (11.6359.6360) SP1
That is exactly what I am saying. I have a folder that shows up
under
"Tools/
Email Accounts/ View or change existing directories or address
books/
and
click Change" but it does not appear in the address book.
It does show up when I send an email.
Thank you.
:
Your post is very unclear.
Are you saying you have a Contacts Folder that does not appear
in
your
Address Book view or that you have a folder in your Address Book
view
that
no longer exists among your Contacts Folders? Always include
your
Outlook
version when you post a question.

I'm running Win XP, SP2, Outlook 2003.
I've got a bunch of contact folders in my address book. If I
go
to
Tools/
Email Accounts/ View or change existing directories or address
books/
and
click Change, I get a list of all of my folders which are
listed
as,
"Family;
Personal Folders", etc. In this list is one folder, named
"Singapore
Contacts; Personal Folders"
Now, whenever I send email this folder is available to me.
However,
when
I
go to the contacts view, this folder is NOT listed, although
all
the
other
folders are listed.
This makes is very difficult to maintain addresses. I have to
start
an
email, go to the folder in question, and make my changes from
there.
How do I get this folder to properly show up in the contacts
view?
