Whenever I have added Contacts, all my Contacts go into the "Contacts"
folder...then I make subfolders to specify type of contacts as well as using
the Distribution list option within the primary "Contacts" folder...my ?
is...when I synchronize my PDA with Outlook...ALL of those contacts in the
primary "Contacts" folder download onto my PDA...I only want to keep the most
current contacts info on my PDA...is there a way to keep these old contacts
info within Outlook..either as an archived file or stored in a subfolder that
would not download onto PDA....it doesn't seem that all the subfolders
transfer to PDA using the categories that they are assigned to.
#2-I am having difficulty changing the profile. In other words. now that I
have become more familiar with Outlook, I want to use my PDA only with a
business email account that is now Hotmail account. This would allow me to
keep my business calendar and scheduling, as well as the contacts that I
mentioned above only in that account profile/mail account .pst folders....do
you have a suggestion as to how to do that?
#3-Can you tell me the benefits of upgrading to Outlook 2003, and
subscribing to the Microsoft Outlook Connector upgrade ($60 a yr) that allows
Hotmail account to be supported, or is buying the Hotmail Plus ($20 a yr)
just as good?
#4-I also need to synchronize my calendar off my PDA with the business
calendar instead of my Outlook Today calendar, contacts as well....Is Outlook
today folders always the default? It seems like I am duplicating efforts
within my email account/folders in Outlook with Outlook Today folders.
#5- LAST but NOT LEAST- I need some advice on "Properties" of contacts
folder...I used to be able before this Outlook installation to record within
"Journal" of contact...or "notes" but this time when I opened my own contact
record...all of my email and appts. and EVERYTHING came up under the Journal
entry...not what I thought would have happened....
Thank you for any and all of your assistance!

These are not Outlook questions. You should be asking the manufacturers of
your synchronization software.

Not all of these questions involve the palm....please review the outlook ?s
again and give me suggestions.....the issue started with the outlook contacts
folder and gaining an understanding of how to best manage old contacts info
and if there was some way to handle them outside of the main contacts
folder...i.e. subfolders or other...I can handle the other issues once I have
an understanding of managing the SPECIFIC issues addressed in this post
regarding the management of Outlook and its functions regarding the contacts,
Outlook Today, calendar and support mechanism for Free Hotmail account.
Review and reply is you would please so that I know that you are able to
understand each issue as I originally posted. The PDA is only going to
synchronize what is set up in each circumstance as I stated....so I need
details about the issues stated in post. Thanks for your help!

Well you need to start by realizing that access to free hotmail from Outlook
no longer exists.
In light of that, which of your questions actually remain?

Give me a break. Do not accuse me of not having read your exhaustive and
lengthy post. I have and it contains so many questions and so many incorrect
assumptions that it is hard to know even where to start.
MSN connector is not supported by Outlook and none of us has even been given
the opportunity to try it. So once again, the majority of your questions
belong in other groups.
Next time try posting questions one at a time and not mixing subjects. I'll
look at the rest of this on my next day off. You seem to assume we have
unlimited free time. None of us does.

Now, for the Outlook related questions:
1. It is difficult make a recommendation on the best way to organize Contact
information because each user's needs are unique. How your particular
synchronization software functions will also come into play here (and we
could know nothing about that). I would suggest you look over this
discussion here on the pros and cons of Contact subfolders VS categories to
see which will suit your needs best:
http://www.slipstick.com/contacts/oloabcat.htm
I would also caution against becoming overly reliant on Distribution Lists.
Although they are a handy feature, they are not a feature that Outlook has
implemented well or that is reliable.
2. It is difficult to understand your Journaling question. At no point did
you ever provide your Outlook version. All current versions use the
Activities Tab in the Contact Record to do what Journaling used to do.
3. IMHO, Outlook 2003 is the first version of Outlook I would recommend to
my friends. Telling you why is far beyond the scope of a Usenet post. That
information is widely available on the Internet. Start here, for example:
http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/ol2003.htm
4. How to create and use Outlook profiles is information that is equally
easy to find in Help files and the Knowledge Base. Again, it is hard to
provide specific information for you since we do not know your Outlook
version. Start here and extrapolate to your version:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;829918&Product=out2003
5. Access to free hotmail accounts from Outlook has been dropped. Whether it
is worthwhile to upgrade to a paid hotmail account and use MSN connector is
beyond the purview of this group. This feature is provided by and supported
by MSN not Outlook. MSN has not provided any ability for Outlook MVP's to
use, become familiar with or support this feature. You will need to ask MSN
about this feature.

In response to your final comment: of course it would have been better to
retitle and repost each of your questions individually. I don't understand
why you felt trying to lump every question you have into one post was
better. Long complicated posts which include issues that are not even within
the purview of the newsgroup are never to your advantage. They will usually
just be ignored. Each of us may have the information to answer one question.
Almost no one will have the information or the time to answer them all.
Posts here are answered by volunteers on their own free time. I finally
happened to have some free time this afternoon because the Red Sox were
trouncing the Yankees so convincingly that I didn't need to watch the game
as closely as I usually do. It still took me an inning and a half to do so.
You might find these guidelines helpful on how to make posts in these
groups:
