I went to Microsoft's website www.howto-outlook.com and got the instructions
on how to locate the Outlook pst data file. Problem is (I am using Vista)
when I to C:\Users\"username"\ and then look for AppData, I don't find it.
How do I get AppData so I can get to \Local\Microsoft\Outlook?

You need to turn on displaying hidden files and folders in Windows Explorer.

Start Windows Explorer and in the Address fiel, type

%LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Outlook

Click Go.
