When I create a new appointment in my calendar (MS Outlook Office 2003) there is a field at the lower left area of the screen for "Contacts." What is this used for? What function is performed if I select contacts from my contact list? Thanks in advance

You would be linking the appointment to the contact. Clicking the underlined
contact name in the appointment will display the contact record. Similarly,
on the contact's Activities page, you'll see the appointment listeede.

Thanks for the response. I'm still confused what the functional difference is between Invite Attendees and Contacts? I know that if I invite others then they receive and email and can accept or decline. Is the only purpose of the Contacts to link contact information to the appointement? No action actually takes place? Thanks in advance

Contacts is just a linking method: You may have people associated with the
meeting who are not actually invited.
