Contacts double in mail message

When I try to open the address book in my email, the contacts list shows two
of most people instead of one. The first listing for each person displays
their email, while the second listing is their fax number. Is there any way I
can get the address book to list only one listing for each person, their
email address only? Thank you for any help.

There is a workaround for this issue: You have to use the "Other" (or similar
one) field and not Fax Number field.
I think Microsoft is still working to this.

Microsoft isn't working on anything in this regard. This is behavior as
designed.
Outlook considers fax numbers to be valid electronic addresses, since there
are many client- and server-based components that can use such addresses.

One method to hide fax numbers from the address book is to prefix the fax
number with one or more letters (maybe B for business fax, H for home, O for
other). If the fax number begins with a letter, Outlook won't show it in the
address book.

There are a couple of utilities that can help you hide fax numbers from the
address book. See http://www.rsoutlook.com/us/rshifa.htm and
http://www.sperrysoftware.com/Outlook_Solutions.htm (Hide Fax Numbers).

Another way to avoid having fax numbers appear in the address book is
simply not to enter data in the fax fields. Put fax numbers in some other
(non-phone) fields.

for the record -- this is an annoying "designed behavior." MS should at least
consider an option to turn off this feature for those do not use fax numbers
as an "electronic address"

Posting here won't put in on the record. You can send Outlook feature
requests a number of ways, all listed here:
