Hello

I had to reinstall my system and now I have the following problem.

I imported my 'address book' from a safeguard and it displays fine when I
click on 'contacts'

But when I type a message and click on 'to', the table that appears is
empty.

Obviously, the automatic 'fill in address function' isn't working either.

Any ideas please?

Thanks

Dave Neve

PS: Running Microsoft Office 2003

You have two problems:
1. You failed to populate your Outlook Address Book. It is one of many
things you lose when you import Contacts instead of migrating them
correctly. You can still do so, however, and information on how to configure
your Outlook Address Book is widely available:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;287563&Product=ol2002
2. Your autocompletion information has nothing whatsoever to do with your
Contacts, and you failed to migrate your autocompletion cache. You will
rebuild it as you send messages.

Hello

Sorry but this isn't easy

I did what the instructions said but it didn't seem to work until I realised
that 'contacts' was not displaying when I open a new message and clicking on
'to'

There is a box which appears in the right hand corner and it was displaying
'personal address book'

There was a second option 'Microsoft address book' and 'contacts' was last

When I click on 'contacts', the addresses appear

So my question is now how to get rid of the first two which are empty or to
make 'contacts' default?

Seems very complicated all this in Outlook eh?

Thanks in advance

Outlook has not used a Personal Address Book for years. Neither should you
be.
Your terminology is not correct, so it is difficult to know what you are
seeing. Perhaps you are translating from another language.
What you should see is "Outlook Address Book" and then beneath it "Contacts"
Anything else you should remove:
Tools > E-mail accounts > View or change existing directories or address
books > Outlook Address Book > Change. >

Hi

Yep I'm translating from French and when it comes to names, you never quite
know

I'll look at this tonite but I'm reluctant to erase anything as the system
is now more or less working

Thanks for your help

You're not erasing anything. You're removing a reference to an obsolete
folder.
