When creating a new contact is there anyway in Outlook
2000 to assign that new contact to a pre-existing
catogery with out completing the contact information then
saving & closing the contact information?

Are you saying you see no Categories button on the first page of the new
Contact Record?

It's at the bottom of the first (General) Page unless your installation is
corrupt, you are using a Custom Form, or you are not using Outlook.

Russ,
When I open a "New Contact Record" I don't see a
categories button anywhere.
