I just did a complete reinstall of my laptop
I replaced the newly-installed outlook.pst file with my original outlook.pst file (and same for contacts.pst
Everything appears in order. I have only one address book and all my contacts appear in the book

However, when I try go to Inbox -> New to create a new email message, Outlook is unable to find the contact (which does exist in my address book). When I try to "check name" I receive the message "Microsoft Outlook does not recognize "name"". If I select Show More Names, a dialog box appears reading "The address list coule not be displayed. The Contacts folder associated with this address list could not be opened; it may have been moved or deleted, or you do not have permissions..." see help... etc. I've checked the permissions on the files (outlook.pst and contacts.pst) - no problems

I *AM* able to to go the contacts list, right click, and select the menu option "New Message to Contact" and create an new email message that way

Any ideas

Thanks
Faye

Right click the Contacts folder, click Properties and select the option to
"Show this folder as an e-mail Address book"

Why did you use a separate PST file for your Contacts than the rest of your
Outlook data? All Outlook data should reside in a single PST. How did you
"replace" the default PST that Outlook created?

When you migrate to new versions, you should simply copy your PST then
configure the new installation to use it as its default. You'll need to be
more clear on what you did for us to undo the damage.

Hi Russ

BondG's early posting solved my problem

And just so you know, I created the contacts.pst file by doing an Export -> pst file type on just my contacts directory as a backup mechanism (so that I could later import it, in case anything bad happened to my outlook.pst file)

Regards
Faye

That's fine. Your post indicated that you had created separate PST files for
Contacts and then imported the rest of your Outlook data separately,
resulting in separate PST files. Clearly, you meant something else.
