Contacts and "Display As"

I'm assuming that the "Display As" line in the contacts page that you fill
out is to show that name or nickname in the from line of an incoming email.
For some reason it does not seem to work for all my contacts. Could someone
point me in the right direction.

I'm running winXP and outlook 2003.

Thanks in advance,

Ray

Perhaps, if you posted an actual question that says what isn't working, your
mail account type and how you are entering recipient information. The "Email
Display As" field does not affect the From: field. That is determined by how
you set up your mail account.

No, that's not what it's for at all. It's to show a display name on messages that you **send** not receive.

Okay let me try this again...If I have someone's email address in my
contacts, eg. (e-mail address removed)... how can I display on the incoming email
from this person to show his real name eg., Tom Jones...or Dick and Jane ???
Isn't the line for "display as" the reason for this ?? I receive emails
from other people that shows their names and not their email addresses.

Sorry for not being more specific...

The sender's address is determined by the sender, not the recipient.

Sue: it ALSO is used by Word 2003 in creating envelopes. This makes the
automatic insertion of the email address even MORE problematic, as I do not
want to print mailing labels and evenlopes with email addresses on them.

Why hasn't Microsoft fixed this to allow us to CHOSE the "display as"
characteristics of our Contacts? Where do we go to demand this? There are
hundreds of posts about this dating back to teh Office 2003 change that did
this....

Huh? I can choose to use whatever Display As text that I want in any contact, simply by typing in that text. There's also nothing to prevent you from using the Full Name for envelopes.
