I am somewhat confused but let me tell you what I am looking at. First I
look at my Contact folder in Outlook and check the names in there. I then
go to my address book and check the names in there and they are not the
same. Some names in the contact folder are not in the address book.
Unless the contact has an electronic address (email or fax), it won't appear
in the address book view.
I also find I have many dupes and triplicates in the address book.
There will be a separate address book entry for EACH electronic address a
contact has. So, if the contact has values for "E-mail", "E-mail 2", and
"Business Fax", you'll see three entries in the address book for that one
contact because the contact had three electronic addresses.
Now when I start to make up an new email and start writing the address it
does use the name in the contact list. That is I think it is as the name I
am entering is not in the address book. Is there a separate list for the
auto entry?
This is the autcomletion cache Gordon mentioned and it is a separate file.
Each time you send a message, Outlook remembers the recipient address,
whether or not it shows in the address book or corresponds to a contact. If
you manuall enter an address, Outlook will remember it. If you choose an
address from the address book interface, Outlook will rememeber it. If you
later change the contact and modify the address, Outlook will not know. You
haven't used the address in a message yet so the autocompletion cache won't
contain it.
