OE6 had the 'contacts/address book' under 'folders/newsgroups' in the left
column (or that's how I set it up). Can I do that with Windows Mail? I don't
like having open 'contacts' each time I want to email someone in my address
book. I've searched but can't find a way in 'layout.' Thanks.

You can't display your contacts in Windows Mail the way you could in Outlook
Express (not sure about Outlook). Now you have to display them using a
*gadget* which is a pain in the butt cause the thing is too wide and covers
up too much of the page so I find myself always moving the gadget out of the
way so I can read things on the page. MS really dropped the ball with this
Windows Mail IMO. They took away good features that worked for years and I
don't see anything new that is so great. Also, lots of the check boxes that
you can select just don't do what they say they will, checked or not. I'm
really upset about this loser program and can't wait till the first MS tech
meeting where I can ask a live person..."What the hell were you thinking???"

What is the *gadget* you are referring to? I'm also curious what they were
thinking removing the contact list! Thanks.

I have been wrestling with my contacts and new message. I opened a "gadget"
on my desktop that is my contacts (might be called address book) and now
from my desk top I can click on a name and open a new mail in one click. This
was after I went in and set up windows mail as default on the control panel.
not sure this is what you are looking for.

You can do that in WM by simply clicking 'Create Mail' button on the
toolbar, and the clicking on the word/line To:
that will open your contacts folder for you.

Thank-you for responding. The "gadget" worked great and is actually easier
than the old layout way in OE. No need to even open Windows Mail to get an
e-mail out!

WindowsMail is set as default in the Control Panel...BUT...I get nothing (no
dropdown - nada) when I click (or double-click) in the To: line of a new
email (after clicking Create Mail.
