Using Outlook 2003 and WinXP Pro

My contacts folder used to be very populated, now it is empty.

1. When I click the 'address book' icon, I get the error message "the
address book list could not be displayed. the contacts folder associated
with this address could not be opened; it may be been deleted..."

2. When I compose an email and begin typing in the To/Cc/BCc fields, I am
given a list of email addresses to choose from. (i.e. I type an 'm' and all
the email addys beginning with 'm' are displayed)

3. When I go into Tools/E-Mail Accounts and view the contact lists
associated with my address book, I see the 'corrupt' contacts file, but
cannot do anything with it.

Help?

Does anything show in the Deleted Items folder? Have you tried running
ScanPST on your PST file to see if anything can be done with the file. Might
you have a copy of the PST file anywhere from before it got scrambled?

Thanks for the response.

I have run scan PST with no success. I ran scan PST in all the folders wher
I think the file should be. Please let me know the proper location where
this file SHOULD be located. Also the file name and extension. I have only
seen an N2K file. I have done searches for PST files and will do so again.
Thanks!

Normally your PST file is located in the C:\Documents and Settings\<user
name>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook folder. The file name
can be anything but it will have a PST extension.

The Local Settings folder is hidden so you have to turn on the ability to
view hidden folders to navigate down to the PST file

I found them. No solution. All the files say 'no error'. I did however
salvage that one NK2 file.

Click Tools>E-mail Accounts>View or change existing directories or address
books>Next. Select Outlook Address Book and click Remove. Stop and restart
Outlook. Click Tools>E-mail Accounts>Add a new directory or address
book>Next. Select Additional Address Books and click Next. Select Outlook
Address Book and click Next. Click Finish. Stop and restart Outlook. Your
Contacts folder should not be reenabled as an address book, but if not,
right-click Contacts, choose Properties, select the Outlook Address Book tab
and check "Show this folder as an e-mail Address Book". Click OK.

Is there a question? This is the autocompletion cache contents for the
letter "m" and has no connection to your contacts. The cache contains
address to which you've previously send mail whether or not those addresses
are in your Contacts folder.
3. When I go into Tools/E-Mail Accounts and view the contact lists
associated with my address book, I see the 'corrupt' contacts file,
but cannot do anything with it.

Follow the steps above and this should be resolved.
