I have a user that is running OL2000 on Windows 200 Pro.
we have Exchange 5.5. When the user tries to
create/address a message to a person in the outside
contacts list Outlook shuts downa nd generates this error
message
"outlook.exe has generated errors and will be closed by
windows. An erro log is being generated"
we have already tried a clean instal of Outlook andvarious
other fixes but none have seem to remidy the issue.
Anyone have any ideas?

I have seen this happen when the contacts folder gets
corrupted. I copied all of the contacts into another
contacts folder then used the Ffolder utility to delete
the folder. Then I used the Command-Line switch
to rebuild the system folder and moved all of the
contacts back into it.

Look on Sue Mosher's Slipstick site for Ffolder Utility:

Ffolder Utility: Utility to rename or delete "special"
Outlook folders such as the Calendar, Tasks, Inbox, and
Contacts. VB source code included.

Look on technet for the information on how to rebuild the
Contacts system folder with the "/ResetFolders" switch:
