Contact Search

For some reason, contacts I have added recently cannot be found using the
search function. Has something changed in recent times in Outlook with the
various security patches? This has not been the case in the past... Help!
 
Not normal behavior.
Ensure that you know which Contacts Folder you are adding the Contacts to
and that this folder has been enabled as an email address book in its
properties.

I only seem to have one contacts folder anyway... I can search for other
records and find them okay... it's just that new ones go into a black hole...
I sync okay with my Sony Ericsson P910i and the record transfers onto that
without a hassle, it's just the search does not work... What next?

Provide more detail on what "search" functions are not working, please. Make
certain that you have restarted Outlook before you attempt to access any
changes you have made.

When I simply search for a contact, e.g. New contact was Bill Smith with all
details updated. If I use the search function and type "smith" and go the
response is "Outlook could not find the contact"... If I go alphabetically,
the contact is present...

Some change appears to have happened because it is not all contacts in the
database. First noticed about two or three weeks ago... maybe one month...

To which "search function" are you referring?
I know of several.
Spell it out. I can't see what you're doing.

Sorry Russ,

In my toolbar, I have a window with "Type a Contact to Find"... if I type
the contact name, e.g. Paul Thomas in the window and hit enter, it will
search the Contacts database and bring up the contact. Recently added
contacts however present the Windows dialogue box that says "Outlook could
not find the requested contact". If I hit the alpha tab down the right side
of the screen and scroll to Thomas, the contact is there and can be displayed
in full...

Does that clarify it sufficiently?

Are you using Outlook 2003 in cached mode?

Hi Russ,

Yep, it has been set up that way...could that be the cause?

I have a desktop PC at home that is also running XP Pro and Office 2003 and
do not have the same problems with the contacts I cannot search for on the
notebook.

It has been reported. I haven't seen a solution.

I have the same issue I think. I think the problem is that it only
searches the email address. Please see if the contacts you can not
find do not have email addresses. This is the case with my problem. I
could definitely search for any field before now it appears to just
look in the email field. Any suggestions?
 
Has something to do with PST files and other contact folders. If you
create a new email mapi profile it should fix the problem.
 
I do believe I have the same problem. I try searching contacts based on there
company name "Reece" and it only brings up 1 contact from this company plus 2
other names that don't have any relevance to this company.

I've checked to see if the other "Reece" contacts have email addresses and
they don't!

CT - could you explain further your solution "...creat a new email mapi
profile...."?
If I understand correctly does this mean basically that I need to get an
email address for them?
 
the lack of an email address shouldn't matter, unless you are specifically
searching for email addresses. Make a new profile from control panel, mail.

I'm sorry but I don't see how this will help by creating an additional
profile or maybe I'm not understanding it clearly? Can you explain it further?

if the search isn't working correctly you may have a corrupt profile -
making a new profile is the only way to correct it.

This "new profile" and what it's telling me on this web page link you've
refered me to is basically setting up a new "user account" is this correct?

That is incorrect. A new mail profile and a new account are completely
different objects.
 
I'm using 2007 and am havin the same problem. Contacts which are in the
database cannot be found using search. Also emails which are definately there
cannot be found using search - does anyone have a solution?

Care to post some measure of detail, like Outlook version, what "database"
you mean, and exactly how you're trying to search?
