contact list into windows mail

I have been trying to find the answer to this for over a month.
I don't think anyone out there has the correct answer.

I have imported my address list from xp on my old comp. to my new vista
computer.
When I go to send an email I click on TO:
Problem is the contact list doesn't come up.
I've tried everything I know to get that list into my email so it will be
there, but no such luck.
I can click on the contact list icon and it comes up but it won't import
into my listing so when I click on TO: it will be there.
OK GEEKS.....
I'm waiting to see if you have the answer.
Personally....I think Vista is screwed up and it won't happen.

It depends what app you used for mail on your old PC as to how you reconnect
it to Mail.
Its not simply a matter of copying the data files to the new PC

the lists came from my outlook express.
I don't know what app
the program simply moved it from xp to the vista machine for me and put it
into a file called contacts and it is on my email tool bar in windows mail.
I don't know the format.

The MS Program transfered the data.
I can't find anything that tells me the format of the contact folder.
It does appear in the tool bar as an icon of windows mail.

It looks like you used a non-standard way to transfer the contacts,
so you may have to do the standard way also to make them work.
Find the .wab file on your old computer, then copy it to a directory
on the hard drive of your new computer - a directory you create
under your Documents directory is a good choice. Make sure this
copy is read-write instead of readonly. Then start Windows Mail,
click Tools, then Windows Contacts, then Import, then Windows
Address Book File (Outlook Express contacts), then Import,
then find the copy of the .wab file, then click on it, then Close, then
close the Contacts window. Don't expect contacts groups to be
transferred correctly, but all the contacts within these groups should
be transferred along with all the contacts that were not in groups.

To use the contacts list, start a new message as usual, except don't
type any part of the address. Instead, click on To:.
