Contact List Importing

Although I successfully imported my contact list from and excel spreadsheet
to Outlook, only the names and e-mail addresses of the contacts appear in the
Address Book. Is there another step I need to take to get the rest of the
information into my Outlook Address Book?

When you imported the data:

#1 - Did the named range include all the columns you wanted to include?
#2 - More importantly, did you manually map all the fields before importing
or did you let Outlook "auto-map" and assume that the field (column) names
were correct? You should always verify that all fields you want to import
are properly mapped to the corresponding Outlook field.

I'm fairly certain that I did manually map and include all the fields in the
range. If I went back and tried to do it again, would I lose all the
information I've entered manually in each contact?

If you redo the import via the Outlook import wizard, you're just going to
end up with duplicates since there is no provision to "update" pre-existng
contacts.

If you wanted to verify whether you did or didn't map the fields originally,
would suggest creating a new contact folder and importing into that just to
check. If you manually map all the fields and the data isn't getting
imported, the problem likely with the input file. If you have already
entered a lot of info for the contacts originally imported, would leave
everything as is and just finish the process.

All I can tell you is that from our experience, in general, the Outlook
import process works exactly as advertised when all things are done as
required for what it was intended to do and more often than not any problem
is related to the data being imported or the process that was followed.

OK! I went in and checked out what was going on and discovered that I didn't
actually do all the manual mapping necessary for the import. After trying
(and failing) a couple of times and just playing with it a whole bunch, I
figured it out and now have all pertinent information in my Outlook contacts!
Thank you so very much for listening and taking the time to answer the
questions of a silly amateur!

Aimee.

You did exactly what I want to do. How did you do it. I want to create an
email list from my excel datatbase.

Thanks,

WineGuy
