contact groups

under contacts there is a link for "add new group" but i don't get how i add
people to those groups.
this is not a DL, just a way (from what i can think) to group contacts (all
work related contacts, all my friends, etc) but there are no actions for
those groups. i can't edit the members in any ways.

any ideas what's that for?

It's just a way to create groups of Contact Folders, not Contacts
themselves.
Outlook provides three basic ways to group individual Contacts:
Folders
Categories
Distribution Lists
