Contact-Address book greyed out

I recently uninstalled Office2K and installed OfficeXP on my machine (running W2K). Outlook will not allow me to check the box to display the Contacts folder as an address book. Followed the steps from Microsoft KBA#287563 several times using both the Add a new Directory and the View or Change options mentioned in the Article. I'm an administrator on my machine, so that can't be an issue. Any help I can get would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
 
I would remove the Outlook Address Book service and then re-Add
