constantly trying to go online

I have Windows XP, and lately, while working off line, a
window constantly pops up saying, "the page is not
available off line do you wish to connect?" This happens
if I'm playing a game, typing on Word or using Excel. How
can I stop this, and why did it just start recently?

Something on your computer is trying to get online. It could be a
legitimate but invasive program trying to look for updates - like
RealOne - or it could be spyware or a virus. Scan with a current av
using updated definitions. Remove spyware with tools such as Spybot
Search & Destroy (www.security.kolla.de) and/or Ad-aware
(www.lavasoftusa.com).
