When using Microsoft Works Word Processor to type anything it constantly restarts my computer and if I haven't saved right before it restarted itself I lose everything I've typed. I am not the fastest at typing so this has caused hours of retyping papers for school. It would be greatly appreciated if anyone could help. Please email me with any ideas. Thanks

Hi,

Find out why it's restarting. Control Panel/System/Advanced tab, click on
startup and recovery settings. Uncheck the option to automatically restart
on system failure. Apply/ok your way out. Next time it happens, instead of
rebooting you should get a blue screen with an error message. Write this
down before restarting manually, then post back with the text of the error
message.

Thanks Nutcase! But, I've already done that and it still restarts without an error message appearing. Any other ideas?

Hi,

Yes, it may be overheating. Random reboots are often a sign of over-heating.
Things you can do:

1) Open the case and make sure all fans are operating, especially the cpu
fan. While you're in there, get a can of compressed air and blow out the
dust bunnies.

2) Make sure the drive tower is well ventilated and not stuck in some
department store computer desk pc cabinet with only a little vent hole in
the back.

3) Visit a local pc shop and have them add an intake or exhaust fan. This is
not something you should do on your own unless you are familiar with the air
circulation pattern inside your machine. Adding a fan can be
counterproductive if not done correctly.
