I've just installed XP and it locks up constantly. I've updated all my drivers, and XP can't find any conflicts, but it's getting very annoying and I'm ready to throw it out the window. If anyone can help me I'd very much appreciate it

Hallo Joe R.,

I've just installed XP and it locks up constantly. I've updated all my drivers, and XP can't find any conflicts, but it's getting very annoying and I'm ready to throw it out the window. If anyone can help me I'd very much appreciate it.

Are you upgrading from windows 95, 98 or me? Then start by verifying
that your memory is not faulty. You can use memtest96 for this
(http://www.memtest86.com) memtest does not need a OS to be present on
your PC.

Good luck.

This is very frustrating but take a deep breath and then lets begin to use the built in tools to find out what is wrong. go>start\control panel\administrative tools\event viewer and when you double click to open this you will see three logs on the left side. The two you will be most conerned with are application and system. Double click applications to open the log list in the right panel. Now what you are concerned about are the red Xs. Double click them to open a details window and although most of the information will seem like Greek to you it will help other people here to track down your problem. Either take a screen shot of the problem or at least try to make a note of the module that is causing your lockups. Do the same for system. This may take a long time but the more info we have the easier it will be to help you. At the very least tell us what application or what you were doing just before the lockup. Good luck.
