constant "buffering..."

Hi,

I have been watching movies over the Internet for which a 300Kbps connection is required. Having high speed, I would expect a smooth and uninterrupted stream; instead, every 5 min my computer (with Windows XP) takes a 5-10sec pause "rebuffering...
I assume this is a buffer size problem, but is there anything I can do to fix the problem (without breaking the computer)
