Consolidating Users

Problem:
Reinstalled WinXP. Apparently used different directory names, and now have
both old and new directories for a specific User.

How to combine directories, overwriting old with new when same directory
name, and eliminate unneeded User identities?

If you can point me toward a discussion of technique, that would be great!
Thanks.

Move the data files from old user folder(s) to the new. If you run into
"access denied" messages, take ownership of the files. Once all of the data
is transferred, delete the old profile.

As the files copy to the new location, you will get prompts about
duplicates. You can choose to overwrite or skip the folder or file.

You still may end up with a few duplicates and could use a "dupe finder" to
remove unwanted copies. "Dupe finders" are third party programs. Many to
choose from and a good number of them are free. A google search should help
you track down some prospects to try.
