Does this mean that none of the stuff in there is usable anymore? Can I
just chuck or move the whole folder now? Thinking of moving it to
another partition.

Once you remove the folder and reboot, a new folder is created and Windows
Update will use this folder for subsequent retrieval and storage.

You can remove the old one.

Remember, once you remove the folder (basically initiating Windows Update),
you should perform a manually Express update check so that everything is
re-downloaded and initialized.

NOTE: all Windows Update History information is lost, so if you check
Update History on the Windows Update web-site, it will be empty. This is
really no loss. It will start to log history from that point on. It has no
effect on your system or Add/Remove Programs information.

Thank you very much! I had to do that as part of a fix to be able to go
to WindowsUpdate anymore.

Can you answer my previous question? That question was, is it ok to move
the DocWatson folder from the OS partition to another partition? I
wanted to do that to free up room on the OS partition. Do I even need
DocWatson anyway? Why is there a 75 MB log file in there anyway?

You can do this one of two ways:

1. Start | Run ... drwtsn32.exe
2. Change the Log File Path and Crash Dump to reflect the new paths (note
.... the paths must exist prior to doing this .... not the files .... just
the paths .... so create the folders first)
3. Click OK

All this does is add to values to the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\DrWatson

It adds:

LogFilePath REG_SZ pathname
CrashDumpFile REG_SZ pathname\filename.dmp (the file is usually
called user.dmp)

These files are leftover from previous applications crashes ... there are
many system cleaners that auto clean these (www.ccleaner.com), or you can
periodically manually delete them yourself.

Bob:

It looks like if you modify them thru Dr Watscon and later modify them back
to the default, the LogFilePath registry value is not changed. You would
have to manually edit the registry and delete the values for the default
values to be used.

So I should just delete the previous crashes from a while back manually,
is one way to go? Ok.

How do I set CCleaner to clean the Doc Watson crash dump file? I just
got this program and it is really really really great!!!!!!!!!!!!
:))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
It's not often I say that about an application. ;)>
