I have a problem with one XP Pro SP2 workstation where Windows Messenger
keeps coming off line. However, when the messenger fails there is no sign
of the failure on the host PC. You can still see contacts on-line and when
you send a message there is no sign that the message fails to reach the
destination. Other PC's see the fact that the workstation's messenger is
off-line.
We have three computers all sharing a single ADSL line and this problem only
happens to one particular PC. All screensavers and power options are
disabled.
I have tried installing Messenger 5.1 to see if it makes a difference and it
doesn't.
I then figured I would un-install 5.1 using msiexec /x
{C3A6819F-62D3-4750-AF1C-28206DDF2C2E} and re-install 4.7. However, I get
an error message saying "The installation package could not be opened.
verify that the package exists."
Can any kind soul advise on either the connectivity problem and/or the
uninstallation issue?
These machines are not on a domain, just a local workgroup.
Many thanks.
