Good evening.
I have mixed network of Windows 2000 server sp4 and windows 2003 with sp1
both are current with all MS patches. We loose all communication, between
the servers, when I start Routing and remote service. Windows 2003 server
is Domain controller, Running RAS, DNS, DHCP, Wins. Windows 2000 Server is
running as backup Domain controller, DHCP, Wins server. I have done all
steps in TID I found when RAS causes problems on DNS and Wins server -
Registry edits.
I would appreciate any suggestions

As we always say, you may have a name resolution or connectivity issue if you install RRAS on a DC. The solution is re-configure the TCP/IP and DNS/WINS settings. this link may help,

I have done all these steps and changed DNS setting to use only IP of server
lan adapter and when I start RAS on Window 2000 server I lose communications.
Do I need to do theses steps on my other DNS server as well - The Primary DC
is a Windows 2003 Server, running RAS successfully.

We need more information to help. Any errors in event viewer?

Hi Robert,

There are no event viewer entries on the Window 2000 Server being recorded
when we start the RAS Service.
I immediately loose connectivity between windows 2000 server and windows
2003 server and all clients. I stop service on the windows 2000 server and
all is ok.

I open a cmd windows and have ping running so I can tell if it stops
communication between the servers.

We opened a case with Microsoft support and the problem was fixed by
uninstall and reinstall with no filters

Hi Mate

what did you have to do to get it working .

I have RAS/DNS/DHCP/wins on the same server and my DNS is Dynamically
updating from 10.3.1.10(primary) to 10.3.1.151( which is assigned to
RRAS)...its doing my head

The only way to currently to stop assigning this ipaddress is to stop
the wins service and delete the New pointer record which it has
created -- sorry no log files on these .
