Maybe someone can help me with this...I have a desktop
computer running XP with an ethernet connection to a
linksys router along with a laptop that accesses my
network wirelessly. My access to the web is via DSL. I
have no problems whatsoever with my XP laptop but
everytime I leave my desktop idle for a small period of
time I lose access to the web through Internet Explorer.
I have found that if I logon to AOL my connection is re-
established (I use a "bring your own connection" to
AOL). When I do not have web acess, the first stage of
the AOL logon process (ie connecting to AOL through
TCP/IP) is very slow but always goes through. This would
at most be midly annoying that I need to logon to AOL
everytime that I want to use the web and my desk-top but
I do sometimes lose my connection while I am actively
browsing the web in IE. Any thoughts would be
appreciated.

I am unable to find the check box to which you are
refering. I looked in the Device Manager under the
properties of Network Adapters. A long time ago I had
set all the power options in the control panel to never
shut down any thing on the desktop. If it matters I am
using a Netgear FA311 10/100 ethernet adapter. Thanks.

Well, some network cards don't have that setting. My Netgear FA310
doesn't, either. My Realtek RTL8139 has a power saving option on the
Advanced tab.
