I tried to connect these two maschines without success. I recive no answer if
i ping debian from vista and also no answer if i try the other way. With a
third maschine ( Win XP pro ) there is no problem to ping and access vista
and / or debian.

It will be fine if anyone could help me

thx a lot

Try disabling the firewall in Vista, make sure both systems are in the same
subnet.

Win: ipconfig
Linux: ifconfig

Hello John,
I will try a more detailed explanation:

Router config:
- IP 192.168.178.1

Debian:
- IP 192.168.178.24
- firewall disabled
- Internet is reachable
- ping router ( response )
- ping Win XP ( response )
- ping vista ( NO response )
- has got shared files ( via smb )

Vista:
- IP 192.168.178.25
- Internet is running
- firewall disabled
- ping router ( response )
- ping Win XP ( response )
- ping debian ( NO response )
- has got shared files

Win XP:
- IP 192.168.178.25
- Internet is running
- ping router ( response )
- ping Win XP ( response )
- ping debian ( response )
- can access shared files of both systems.

As you can see, firewall is disabled and the system uses the same subnet.
For a short time debian appears in vista network envoirement. At the win xp
system i can the debian the hole time.

Hi

I have a similar problem

I am on Build 5728 and I can connect from the Vista Pc to my Ubuntu PC and
access shared Samba folders, yet I cannot connect from my Ubuntu box onto the
Vista PC.
