My modem is usb, my router is ethernet connection. How can I get windows to
connect wireless out side computers to the internet thru the usb modem? Is
there a cable needed to change usb into ethernet so that the modem can go
thru the router? I would think there must be a way for the Windows XP Home
enviroment to manage the connection?

is this a broadband modem with both USB and Ethernet ports? if it is
USB only, you can try asking your ISP/provider to swap it out. post
some details on your provider/modem

A simple solution, as Barb Bowman said, is to use a modem with an
Ethernet output and connect it to the wireless router.

If that isn't possible, here's a more complicated solution:

1. Connect the USB modem to the XP Home computer.

2. Configure the wireless router as a wireless access point only,
bypassing its routing capabilities:

a. Connect the XP Home computer to a LAN port.
b. Don't connect anything to the WAN (Internet) port.
c. Disable the DHCP server.

3. Enable Internet Connection Sharing on the XP Home computer's USB
modem connection. If it asks what to use for the home network, tell
it to use the Ethernet connection.
