I can't seem to solve an internet problem in my Windows 98
environment. When I first boot my computer wants to log
onto the internet, even though I have not tried to
initiate Explorer or Outlook Express. When I change the
set up to "Never dial a connection" it solves the problem,
but then when I want to log on it locks up just as the
dialog box indicates "dialing", using my modem (I don't
have DSL). The computer locks up entirely, forcing me do a
hard re-boot. After doing this once or twice the computer
then behaves normally until the next session. Both the
free Microsoft and Earthlink technical folks say it's not
a problem they know about, and that I can do one of two
things: save all data, reformat my hard drive and reload
Windows - or pay $35 and call the pay-per-incident MS
technical support to see if they can help. Can anybody
else help?
